India is not only fighting the COVID pandemic but is also struggling to assuage the
hunger of millions and do away with malnutrition completely. Though malnutrition rates in India have
improved over the recent years, it is still home to a noteworthy population of stunted and wasted children.
Malnutrition among children and mothers is one of the major health risks factors in India and contributes
to 15 per cent of India’s total disease burden. As an answer to the call of duty, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi had launched POSHAN Abhiyan in 2017 with an aim to improve nutritional outcomes for
children, pregnant women and lactating mothers. This flagship mission of the Ministry of Women and
Child Development, Government of India, aims at a convergence mechanism for the country’s response to malnutrition.
Child Nutrition is one of the key focus areas of the Government of India’s POSHAN Abhiyan.
In addition, the State governments are also actively spurring action on eradication of child
malnutrition in the community and boost nutritional outcomes in children.
With an aim to provide a knowledge exchange platform for key stakeholders of
the POSHAN Abhiyan and organisations contributing to the improvement of Child
Nutrition in the country, Elets Technomedia with CMAM Association of India, as knowledge partner,
is organising ‘POSHAN Perspectives’ – A series of Webinars on Child Nutrition.
The webinars will witness key participation from Union and State government policymakers
from departments of Women & Child Development, Health & Family Welfare, AYUSH, and Food &
Public Distribution. Besides, participants from Centres of Excellence, Academia,
NGOs, Corporate, CSR agencies, UN agencies, Healthcare providers, and other relevant fields will
also contribute their insightful deliberations to the forum.
The webinars will bring to light the efforts of the Union government, state and local governments,
corporates and civil society organisations towards battling Severe Acute Malnutrition among children in the country.
